What is CASI?
The Chicago Asthma Surveillance Initiative (CASI) is a project that is charged with characterizing and monitoring variations in asthma care within City of Chicago and the surrounding counties.

What is the purpose of the study?
Its aims:
1: To characterize the variation in asthma care in hospitals, emergency departments, primary care and asthma specialty practices, managed care organizations, and pharmacists within the Chicago area.  CASI is also completing a survey of general asthma knowledge in our community.

2: To provide data to various organizations with community wide programs in asthma education such as the Chicago Asthma Consortium (CAC).

3: To establish a method of monitoring changes in area-wide asthma care for the purpose of evaluating the success of community-wide asthma awareness efforts.

Where can I get a copy of the national asthma guidelines?
Contact the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute at the NIH and request a copy of the "Guidelines for the Management and Diagnosis of Asthma".

How is the CASI study supported?
The CASI project is supported by a grant from the Otho S.A. Sprague Memorial Institute.  The dissemination of the information from the CASI surveys is partially supported by contributions from GlaxoWellcome, Inc., Merck & Co., and Rhone-Poulnec Rorer.

If I want to get a copy of the presentations who do I contact?
